Hi everyone,

The Shaw children were lively and mischievous.

Without my grandparents knowing, when they became angry with each other, they agreed to go to the woods, a nearby forested area, get behind trees, and fight. Those fights seemed to resolve their anger forever. Uncle Gilbert was the naughtiest. When it was time for him and his brothers and sisters to leave the cotton, peanut, and corn fields, in the early evening to eat supper, he made all of them, except Daddy, get in front of him. He drove them home like cattle, they said, because he was mean. If one of them caused Uncle Gilbert to get a whipping, when they got back to the field, he whipped the whole bunch. One day, Aunt Willie Lee, who was "as strong as a bull" (Uncle Charlie said), got tired of Uncle Gilbert whipping them. She whipped him, and he didn’t ever whip them again.

Brothers and sisters can find a way to keep one from bossing the others and that makes them more loving toward each other, and the children didn’t hold unkind behavior in their hearts. Often they solved their problems by fighting each other and, when the fight was over, they played with each other as though it had never happened. In effect, this was because my grandparents taught them to love each other and Grandpa often told why.

Beloved parents, I encourage you to teach love indelibly in the hearts of your children and they will always love you and each other. Don’t miss it! You will love it.
