Hi everyone,
My Uncle Gilbert acted in ways that made our Shaw family resemble a family in the Bible.
One day, while working the land, he told Granddaddy, "I'm tired of hoeing in the cotton, corn, and peanut fields.” Granddaddy said, "Son, if you are tired of hoeing, go to the house, pack your clothes, and leave." Uncle Gilbert took Granddaddy at his word. He went to Andalusia, Alabama, a nearby town in Covington County, and stayed three years. When he returned, Granddaddy welcomed Uncle Gilbert back home, like the father of the Prodigal Son in the Bible.
The huge lesson in this conversation is that, if worrisome children return home, with love, like Uncle Gilbert, put a gold ring on them, as if they had never left.
