My Alabama Shaw Family on My Father’s Side From 1861-2014

Mama, Bennie, and Fifth Generation Girl, Trina, and I cleaned our houses, prepared food and desserts, and stowed them in deep freezers in joyful anticipation of hosting the 1980 Shaw/Boykin family reunion and the 4 day celebration finally arrived

Hi everyone,

Our Shaw family reunion in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

During the first day at my house, the family reunion included work, fun, and laughter. Sometimes the men stood outside in front of the house and looked at it, and I was in the midst of them. Daddy rejoiced at seeing my Spanish Ranch brick home that I had given him a picture of. It was a crumpled photo, because he had looked at it many times, he told me, and carried it around in his pocket. He took it out of his pocket and said, “I declare, Annie Lee, this picture sure is your house. I knew this would be your house because your mama and me always taught you to tell the truth.” Moments like that made all the preparations worthwhile. Daddy was so full of love, until I could have had a family reunion with just him, Mama, Bennie, Trina and myself.

Daddy would not miss an opportunity to say something encouraging and nice about me and say it with love in his voice and that was the way he was as long as he lived.

Let each of us be a perpetual encourager! It blesses the hearers and enriches our inner selves.
