Hi everyone,

Summers ended, but spring kept turning into summer, again, and Gabrielle continued visiting Bennie and me in Virginia Beach.

Our goal was to keep her happy, busy, and learning. We took her to museums, including a children’s science museum, paid for her to take art and tennis courses at Norfolk Academy College Preparatory School, across the street from our home. She was happy in her art class, loved her compassionate white teacher, and did beautiful artwork. Some of it hangs in our library, here at home. I hope to get a drawing laminated for her to see, forever, the beautiful work she did so young in life. One summer, we took her to tour the battleship Missouri on exhibit at the waterfront in Norfolk, Virginia. She was happy about that, and we took her to Busch Garden Amusement Park in Williamsburg, Virginia. She was so excited, until she tried to go on all the rides, accompanied by Bennie or me and we were afraid to go on some of them, but Grandpa manned up and even rode the dizzy cup and saucer ride, but he escaped such result. At the end of the day, we went to see a play at the Busch Garden Theater.

When I asked her what she liked most about the day, she answered, “The play.” That was Gabrielle, a young lover of theater, art, and beauty.
