Hi everyone,

The summer of 1999, we took Gabrielle to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

We lived at the plush Benjamin Franklin Hotel that still had a black shoeshine man. That reminded me of slavery, and I spoke about it to Bennie. In Philadelphia, we took Gabrielle to see the Liberty Bell, and Benjamin Franklin Museum. She liked it all and enjoyed learning that the Benjamin Franklin Museum was dedicated to the life, times, and legacy of the Philadelphia statesman. She also learned that Benjamin Franklin was an inventor and a revolutionary. My sixth-generation Shaw family member was delighted and engaged in all the sights. The young girl grew with each vacation opportunity.
